Sewing Services in Grey County, Ontario

Sydenham Sewing and Alterations is based in Chatsworth, Ontario, on my husband’s and my 100-acre farm on the Sydenham river. I offer clothing alterations and repairs, home décor, custom casual clothing, costumes and sewing lessons.

 

Years ago, I worked as a costumer for many of the big theatre companies in Toronto: Livent, Mirvish, the Canadian Stage Company, the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada. I made costumes for fabulous shows like The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, and Mamma Mia.

 

Since then, I have kept up my sewing skills, making clothes and home décor items for myself and friends. As a seamstress, I picked up the care and professionalism that was the hallmark of my colleagues in the costume shops. I also worked for several years as a university instructor. My Sydenham Sewing courses and private lessons combine the skills and experience from my two previous careers.

With growing inflation these days, it’s great to be able to breathe new life into old clothes. To have a tear or pocket-hole fixed, to have that too-long shirt shortened, to redesign an out-of-style fashion to make it new and fun! You can drop by our beautiful 1890s farmhouse for fittings, consultations, to drop off and pick up your sewing items, and for sewing courses and private lessons.
